The primary weakness of portable HVLP spray tanning systems is the spray gun. Most have extraordinarily poor atomization and produce uneven coverage. The gun on the TanStation is the best we have found among portable turbine units.
The electric motor powers a turbine impeller that produces 55 cubic feet of air flow per minute (CFM). Turbines are essentially vacuum cleaners running in reverse, blowing air rather than sucking it. HVLP uses a large volume of air, rather than high pressure to achieve good atomization (fine spray). By using low pressure air, HVLP overcomes spray "bounceback" to achieve a high material transfer rate The unit is protected from clogging by providing an easily accessible and replaceable filter. The unit is as quiet as any turbine system in the portable class.
