TurboAir Mach7 Airbrush Maintenance

TurboAir TurboSpeed Airbrush Operation

Fluid Flow Adjustment

The video clip shows how the fluid flow knob affects the trigger. With the knob screwed all the way forward, no fluid flows. The technician is applying pressure to the trigger while unscrewing the knob. This allows the trigger to pull back further and more fluid to flow. The spray stream gets heavier. At a certain point, the trigger is as far back as it goes. Unscrewing the knob more will eventually remove the knob. You can use the knob to set the desired spray level. Some just screw the knob to the maximum trigger position, and manually determine how far back to pull the trigger.

Circular Motion Technique

The video clip shows a popular technique in airbrush tanning -- that of applying a circular motion to the tip of the airbrush as the airbrush is moved in a given direction. This results in a spray stroke that is wider than the airbrush would normally make and produces a fairly uniform background. The use of this technique is not mandantory, but many find it very helpful.

Dissassembly

The accompanying video describes the dissassembly of the Mach 7 airbrush for thorough cleaning. The detailed steps are described below.

1. Remove the solution cup assembly from the side of the airbrush.

2. There are two methods you can use:

Method 1: (not recommended) - Remove the airbrush handle/tail cap & fluid knob in one piece. The problem with the one step method is the risk to the nozzle if you also reassemble in one step. The fluid knob has an extension that must fit over the back of the needle. Many people that attempt one-step reassembly fail to line the back of the needle up with the fluid knob. Failing to do so, they attempt to force the handle back on to the airbrush. This may push the needle forward through the delicate nozzle, spreading or even splitting it. If this happens, the nozzle must be replaced.
Method 2: (recommended) Remove the fluid adjusting knob at the back of the airbrush by screwing counterclockwise. Then remove the handle, also named the tail cap in the parts diagram. This is the preferred order. Use Method 2.

3. Remove the needle cap from the front of the airbrush. Note that the needle barely protrudes through the nozzle cap.

4. Remove the nozzle cap from the front of the airbrush. Note that the needle barely protrudes through the nozzle.

5. Remove the needle chucking nut that holds the needle in place.

6. Remove the spring case by unscrewing counterclockwise.

7. Remove the spring.

8. Remove the needle.

9. Remove the needle chucking guide.

10. Using the small wrench that came with your airbrush, untighten the nozzle on the front of the airbrush. Then unscrew and remove the nozzle by hand.

11. At this point, the disassembly that you have performed is as far as you should go unless you are an experienced technician. At this stage you can perform a thorough cleaning. You may use a brush or other cleaner to clean the inner surfaces of the body of the gun. You can also wipe off the needle and soak the needle and nozzle as necessary.

Re-Assembly

1. Reattach the nozzle to the front of the gun. Using the supplied wrench, just snug the nozzle. Do not overtighten, as the nozzle is a delicate part and the fitting may strip or shear.

2. Reinsert the needle chucking guide making sure the "groove" side faces down.

3. Insert the spring.

4. Screw in the spring case.

5. Insert the needle using a rotating motion if you meet resistance. Do not force the needle as you may damage the nozzle. When the needle slightly protrudes through the nozzle, stop.

6. Attach the nozzle cap to the front of the airbrush. the needle should be protruding slightly through the nozzle cap.

7. Screw on the needle chucking nut. Tighten to lock the needle in place.

8. Attach the needle cap to the front of the airbrush.

9. Attach the tail cap or airbrush handle.

10. Attach the fluid flow knob. There is a change in dimension on the extension of the fluid flow knob, immediately in front of the knob. When the edge of this width change lines up with the end of the handle, a full 4 turns will begin to contact the trigger at its maximum retraction.

Your airbrush is now re-assembled and ready for use.
